Presidential Candidate for the Movement for Change, Alan Kyerematen has donated GH¢100,000 to traders affected by the Kantamanto fire outbreak.

During his visit to the burnt-down market, he urged the government to draw attention to the market centres since trade and distribution play a pivotal role in the country’s economy.

He called on stakeholders to take swift action to curb potential future occurrences.

“80% of the population are involved in the trade and distribution sector thus the need to pay attention to them. Trade is pivotal in the economy of a country. This must be the last time we hear things like this happen, not just here but nationwide. This is a call to action for the whole of Ghana.

“I know the majority of you are parents and you’ve lost the monies intended to cater for your children’s academic tuition. To help ease the burden on you, I am donating GH¢100,000 to you,” he stated.

In the early hours of January 2, 2025, a devastating fire swept through the Kantamanto Market in Accra, leaving traders in despair as they counted their losses.

The market, known for its vibrant atmosphere and diverse range of goods, was reduced to ashes in a matter of hours.

The scene was one of heartbreak and chaos. Traders, many of whom had invested their life savings into their businesses, sifted through the charred remains of their stalls, hoping to salvage anything of value.
