Some constituents of Okaikwei Central have expressed dissatisfaction with the declaration of Patrick Boamah of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as the Member of Parliament-elect for the constituency.

The declaration was made on Sunday, January 5, following a directive from the Accra High Court, which ordered the Electoral Commission (EC) to finalize the collation of results in Okaikwei Central, Tema Central, Ablekuma North, and Techiman South by January 6, 2025.

Boamah secured victory with 21,099 votes, defeating Baba Sadiq of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who obtained 19,368 votes.

Despite the official declaration, some residents in the constituency have voiced their displeasure and rejected the outcome, citing concerns over the process.

“The re-collation that took place, we won’t accept it. The only MP we have here is Baba Sadiq so no Baba Sadiq, no MP. No NDC person was there during the re-collation exercise. It was between the NPP. They will be going to court so they should wait for that. They said ten days so why are they rushing? We won’t accept Boamah as MP. His twelve years is enough,”

“It’s unfortunate because we are aware that yesterday a Stay of Execution had been granted by an appeal court so they are not supposed to do this. We don’t know why they are doing it, but let’s see what will happen. Insha Allah, the NDC too will come out but I don’t think this matter will end here because what they are doing is illegal. Where are the representatives of the other parties,” stated Mohammed Ibrahim Magagy, the Chairman of Asarudeen B in Okaikwei Central constituency

“We don’t want Yaw Boamah as our NPP. The only MP we know is Baba Sadiq. You can’t vote and there is a result and then you recollate to declare another person winner. It is not fair. It’s theft. Baba Sadiq is ready to be sworn in so Boamah shouldn’t play smart,” said Christiana Tetteh.
