Charles Forson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially been declared the elected Member of Parliament for Tema Central following the completion of the re-collation process for the constituency.

This declaration follows the High Court’s directive in Accra on January 4, 2025, which ordered the Electoral Commission (EC) to finalize the results in Tema Central, Ablekuma North, Okaikwei Central, and Techiman South by January 6, 2025.

The court’s ruling was based on mandamus applications filed by NPP candidates in these constituencies.

The court also instructed the Inspector General of Police to ensure adequate armed security during the collation process to maintain order and safety.

After the re-collation of results for Tema Central, Charles Forson secured 18,870 votes, narrowly defeating the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate Ebi Bright, who garnered 18,815 votes. The total valid votes cast for the constituency amounted to 37,894, with a few rejected ballots.

Forson’s declaration as the winner comes after the court’s intervention to ensure the thorough and complete collation of all outstanding votes, emphasizing the importance of accuracy and transparency in the election process.
