Alban Bagbin, Speaker of Parliament, has expressed his gratitude to President-elect John Dramani Mahama for endorsing him to retain his position as Speaker.
Bagbin assured that he would work diligently to strengthen democratic institutions and ensure that Parliament remains an effective and responsive body that meets the needs and aspirations of the people. He described his nomination as a profound responsibility, which he does not take lightly.
On January 5, 2025, President-elect Mahama instructed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Leadership to nominate the Right Honourable Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin as Speaker of the 9th Parliament of the Fourth Republic.
This directive followed consultations with the party’s leadership and recognized Bagbin’s exceptional service in Parliament. A veteran legislator, Bagbin has held several key positions, including Minority Leader, Majority Leader, and Speaker of the 8th Parliament.
In his statement of gratitude, Bagbin reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring the 9th Parliament operates at the highest standards, pledging to be more dedicated than ever before.
“As Speaker of the Ninth Parliament, I will continue to uphold these values and ensure that the Ninth Parliament operates with the highest standards of integrity, transparency, accountability and inclusiveness.
“I would like to take this opportunity to assure the President-Elect, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, and the people of Ghana that I will, more than before, rededicate myself fully to the task ahead of the country, working to strengthen our democratic institutions and to ensure that Parliament remains an effective and responsive institution to the needs and hopes of the people.
