Patrick Yaw Boamah of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially been declared the Member of Parliament for Okaikwei Central, securing victory in the just-concluded parliamentary elections.

Boamah polled 21,099 votes, defeating Baba Sadiq of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who garnered 19,368 votes.

This declaration comes after a High Court directive in Accra on January 4, 2025, which mandated the Electoral Commission (EC) to complete the collation of results in Okaikwei Central, Tema Central, Ablekuma North, and Techiman South by January 6, 2025.

The court’s decision was in response to mandamus applications filed by NPP candidates in the affected constituencies, compelling the EC to finalize incomplete collation processes. Justice Forson Agyapong, who presided over the case, emphasized the EC’s duty to ensure accurate and complete results in compliance with electoral laws.

To maintain order during the collation, the court directed the Inspector General of Police to provide armed security at all collation centers.

Boamah’s victory underscores the importance of transparency and thoroughness in the electoral process, ensuring that every vote is accounted for in determining the will of the people.
