The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly (KoKMA) have issued eviction notices to the personnel and management residing in the bungalows of the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board.
This action contradicts assertions made by the staff of the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board regarding a purported effort by a private developer to demolish the bungalows.
Tensions in the vicinity heightened when the private developer was observed on-site with heavy machinery, allegedly preparing for the demolition.
The staff have actively opposed any efforts by the private developer to proceed with the demolition of the bungalows.
Nevertheless, eviction notices have been affixed to the property, instructing the occupants to vacate.
Multiple notices from NADMO dated October 25, 2024, and from the Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly dated June 25, 2024, indicated that the deteriorating bungalows posed a risk to human safety.
Consequently, they directed the private developer to undertake the demolition.
NADMO classified the building as unsafe and mandated the Assembly to ensure its demolition to avert any potential hazards.
The demolition is currently underway.
