A devastating fire swept through the wood market at Kwadaso in Kumasi on Saturday, January 4, 2025, leaving significant destruction in its wake and causing substantial losses to traders and residents.
Eyewitnesses reported that the blaze, which started in the early hours, quickly consumed large portions of the market.
Stacks of timber, sawmills, and other valuable property were reduced to ashes. Traders and workers watched helplessly as their livelihoods went up in flames.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) swiftly arrived at the scene to combat the inferno. Firefighters battled tirelessly to bring the situation under control, employing advanced firefighting equipment and techniques to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to nearby areas.
While the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, preliminary investigations have been launched to determine its origin.
This comes after another fire broke out at Kantamanto Market in Accra, a bustling hub for traders specializing in second-hand clothes. This marks the second major fire incident within the first four days of 2025.
