Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has highlighted the urgent need for approximately $1.4 billion to complete the ongoing projects, criticizing the government’s failure to meet this financial requirement.
Dr. Omane Boamah pointed out that all hospitals remain inactive, despite the significant investments made in the initiative, and he expressed discontent with the current status of the Agenda 111 hospital projects.
His remarks came in response to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s appeal to President-elect John Dramani Mahama to prioritize the completion of the Agenda 111 hospital projects upon taking office.
The President emphasized the transformative potential of the Agenda 111 initiative, referring to it as a fundamental element of Ghana’s healthcare advancement.
On Saturday, January 4, 2025, Dr. Boamah expressed in a Facebook post said, “None of the Agenda 111 hospitals is functioning. Uncompleted! US$1.4billion needed to complete.”
The Agenda 111 initiative, launched under Akufo-Addo’s administration during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, seeks to build 111 district and regional hospitals, including psychiatric facilities, to bridge significant gaps in Ghana’s healthcare infrastructure.
The project has faced significant obstacles stemming from inadequate funding, even though advancements have been achieved.
