The Koforidua High Court has granted an interim injunction against the swearing-in of Ernest Kumi as the Member of Parliament-elect for the Akwatia constituency.

This was after lawyers of the National Democratic Congress NDC parliamentary candidate, Henry Boakye-Yiadom filed a lawsuit against the EC, Ernest Kumi, and the Clerk to Parliament, seeking an injunction to prevent Mr Kumi’s swearing-in.

The Akwatia Constituency was part of the contended seats that were subsequently declared by the Electoral Commission at the National Police Training School in Tesano, Accra.

The EC declared the seat in favor of NPP’s Ernest Kumi who according to the final collation garnered 19,269 votes, while Henry Boakye-Yiadom of the NDC had 17,206 votes.

After hearing the case, the court on January 2, issued an order prohibiting Mr Kumi from being recognized as the MP-elect for the Akwatia Constituency.
