Fire destroys ECG cables on new year’s eve in Tema

On New Year’s Eve, a fire incident in Tema, in the Greater Accra Region, resulted in the destruction of several cables owned by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

The blaze, which was observed behind the Lube Oil Company at approximately 5 pm on Tuesday, severely damaged the electrical cables.

As a consequence, there was a temporary power outage affecting areas including Adjetey Ansah, the Naval Quarters, Aunty Kate, Leonardo, and Bankuman.

Investigation into the cause of the fire is currently ongoing.

Ms. Sakyiwaa Mensah, the Public Relations Officer for the Tema Region of the power distributor, noted that the prompt response of the Ghana National Fire Service was instrumental in salvaging the situation.

“The extent of damage is still being assessed. Until this assessment is done, it will be difficult for us to ascertain the cost associated.”
