Independence Square to close temporarily for Mahama’s swearing-in ceremony

The Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture has announced the temporary closure of Independence Square and its surrounding areas in Accra in preparation for the swearing-in ceremony of President-elect John Dramani Mahama on January 7, 2025.

This closure is part of the government’s efforts to ensure a smooth and secure transition for the Fourth Republic of Ghana.

According to a statement from Mark Okraku Mantey, the Deputy Minister for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, the closure will begin at midnight on December 31, 2024, and remain in effect until January 8, 2025.

During this period, National Security will cordon off the area to facilitate the organization of the event and ensure the safety of all participants.

The Ministry has urged the public and tourists to take note of the directive and comply accordingly.
