The 16-year-old son of Bishop Salifu Amoako has been convicted and sentenced to six months at the Senior Correctional Center for manslaughter following a tragic accident.
Initially pleading not guilty to eight charges, including two counts of manslaughter, three counts of negligently causing harm, two counts of dangerous driving, and one count of driving without a valid license, the teen later changed his plea to guilty.
The Juvenile Court in Accra presided over by Her Worship Bernice Mensimah Ackon, convicted the teenager based on his guilty plea and sentenced him to six months in accordance with the Juvenile Justice Act—the maximum punishment for a juvenile offender in a manslaughter case.
As part of the sentence, the court ordered the juvenile to sign an undertaking to refrain from driving until he turns 18, in compliance with Ghanaian law. Additionally, the teen must report to Probation Officers every Friday during his sentence.
In a related ruling, the court fined Bishop Salifu Amoako and his wife, Mouha Amoako, 500 penalty units each (equivalent to GHc6,000) for failing to properly supervise their son.
The court also instructed Bishop Salifu Amoako to cover the cost of property damage, including the destruction of a light pole valued at over GHc8,000.
