Calls for the incoming Mahama administration to recognize the Western Region through cabinet appointments have intensified following the National Democratic Congress (NDC) resounding success in the 2024 general elections. The NDC made significant inroads in the region, including victories in traditionally New Patriotic Party (NPP)-dominated constituencies like Sekondi and Essikado-Ketan.

Speaking to Channel One News during a thanksgiving service celebrating the win, some residents argued that the Western Region’s overwhelming support for the NDC merits recognition through strategic appointments in the new administration.

Before the 2024 elections, the NDC held eight parliamentary seats in the Western Region. Following the polls, the party captured 15 out of the 17 constituencies, gaining seven additional seats and reducing the NPP to just two seats.
