President-elect John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his commitment to enhancing Ghana’s security framework through strengthened cooperation with the United States.

During a courtesy visit by a U.S. delegation led by Ambassador Virginia Palmer on Tuesday, December 17, Mahama emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration in tackling critical security issues in the West African sub-region.

He highlighted the shared challenges of terrorism, organized crime, and regional instability, stressing that a strong partnership with the U.S. is vital for safeguarding Ghana’s national security and contributing to broader regional peace.

Mahama expressed his appreciation for the longstanding relationship between Ghana and the United States and reaffirmed his readiness to work closely with international partners to address emerging threats.

“It is critical even more now than before because of what Ghana is going through in terms of economy and finances but more importantly because of the energy sector. I know the comparative advantage and technology and knowledge that the US has.

“We want to work closely to see how we can resolve some of the issues in that sector. Of course, we worked on the MCC together.  It has made Ghana’s electricity generation sector more resilient than it was before the MCC.   As I said, it was just the final part we couldn’t complete together.

“Luckily we had the opportunity to discuss the MCC when we went there to see how we could wrap up that part of our cooperation,” he stated.
