President-elect John Dramani Mahama has openly acknowledged the grave economic challenges facing Ghana, highlighting the task ahead to restore the nation’s financial stability and prosperity.

Speaking during a thanksgiving service at the Assemblies of God Church in Accra on Sunday, December 15, Mahama underscored that winning the December 7 general elections was merely the first step in a long journey toward economic recovery.

Mahama, who secured an emphatic victory in the polls, shared his reflections on the current state of Ghana’s economy and the responsibility that comes with leading a country in crisis.

His remarks highlighted both the magnitude of the work required and his resolve to rise to the challenge with determination and focus.

Mahama reiterated his commitment to tackling these issues head-on, emphasising the need for a clear plan, prudent decision-making, and the support of capable individuals in his administration.

“It is not going to be easy, as I have said many times on the campaign trail. With the few briefings I have had since the declaration was made, I can confirm that our country is still in a very severe economic crisis and it is going to take a lot of work to bring it back.

“It is going to be a tough task to restore our economic prosperity but I pray that the God who gave me this responsibility will give me the strength and the wisdom to carry on. I pray that God gives me the sense of discernment and wisdom to choose the right people to work in the best interest of the people of Ghana.”

Throughout his address, Mahama struck a tone of humility and pragmatism, recognising the enormity of the task while expressing hope and faith in Ghana’s ability to recover.

He called on all Ghanaians, regardless of political affiliation, to rally behind the common goal of rebuilding the nation, urging unity and collective effort in addressing the challenges ahead.
