The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has described the ongoing re-collation of election results at the Tesano Police Training School, in Accra as an illegality.
According to him, the actions of the Electoral Commission are not based on any electoral laws of the country.
On December 12, the EC ordered a re-collation of results for four constituencies in the Eastern Region: Suhum, Nsawam Adoagyiri, Fanteakwa North, and Akwatia. These areas have faced controversies surrounding the initial collation process.
After several allegations and counter-accusations from both the NPP and the NDC, three constituencies were successfully collated and declared for the NPP, leaving Nsawam Adoagyiri.
Speaking in a press conference on Friday, December 13, Asiedu Nketiah stated that the process must be halted. He added that every EC official or police officer involved in the process may face the law in future.
“We in the NDC believe that what is happening at the police training school amounts to an illegality. It is not founded in any laws of our elections. Neither it is based on consensus that has been raised between the parties and the EC.
“We want to inform the nation and to give notice to any official of the commission and the police who are involved in the perpetuation of that illegality to know that there could be consequences of their actions in the future,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has reportedly obtained a court injunction to halt the re-collation of parliamentary results for the Nsawam Adoagyiri constituency.
This legal action comes amid rising tensions and accusations of discrepancies in the election results. The injunction seeks to stop the Electoral Commission’s (EC) ongoing efforts to resolve the contested collation, which has led to disputes between the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
