President-elect John Dramani Mahama has pledged that the incoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) majority in Parliament will exercise its numbers responsibly.

The NDC currently controls over 180 seats, compared to the New Patriotic Party’s 79 seats.

During a courtesy visit by the Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, and his delegation, Mahama assured Ghanaians that both his administration and the parliamentary group would prioritize the nation’s welfare.

He emphasized that the NDC would steer clear of actions that could compromise Ghana’s democracy, committing to governance in the best interest of all citizens.

“We are not going to misuse the majority we have in parliament. Even though we have a huge majority, we are not going to misuse it. We are going to consult with the minority at every stage and make sure that we do things by consensus, instead of ringroading everybody,” he stated.

John Mahama also advised his future appointees to stay in the private sector if they were not committed to working for the benefit of Ghana.

“Ghanaians are slow to react and if they have enough of you, they will punish you. So, I want to urge those who are aspiring to work with the new government, that it is not going to be easy, or business as usual.

“It is going to be hard work. So, if you are not prepared to work hard and to sacrifice for Ghana, then you better stay in the private sector,” he added.
