Kwame Appiah Kodua, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate, has been declared the winner of the Fanteakwa North parliamentary race following a recount of the ballots.
The recount was triggered by the narrow margin between the candidates in the initial results. After re-collation, Appiah Kodua secured 11,751 votes, surpassing the 11,297 votes of Haruna Apaw-Wiredu, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate.
The Electoral Commission (EC) ordered the re-collation on Thursday, December 12, after the NPP raised concerns about discrepancies in the pink sheets from two polling stations.
The decision followed protests by the NPP, which contested the validity of the earlier results.
On December 10, the EC had initially declared Haruna Apaw-Wiredu as the winner with 11,138 votes to Appiah Kodua’s 10,847 votes. However, the recount and resolution of the disputes overturned the initial declaration, confirming Appiah Kodua’s victory in what has been a closely contested race.
This outcome affirms Appiah Kodua’s position as the elected representative for Fanteakwa North, marking a significant win for the NPP.
