Following the announcement of John Dramani Mahama as the winner of Ghana’s 2024 presidential election, various groups have extended their congratulations to the president-elect, expressing hope and outlining expectations for his tenure.
The Convention People’s Party (CPP) celebrated Mahama’s victory, referencing his family’s legacy of public service.
“Sir, we wish you the very best in your tenure. As your father, Hon. Emmanuel Adama Mahama, served excellently under the Osagyefo-led Convention People’s Party government, we are also hopeful that you will do the same,” the party stated.
The National Motor Riders Union, popularly known as the “Okada” Riders Association, also sent a message of gratitude and optimism.
“Your hard work and perseverance have paid off. We are also grateful for your commitment and dedication to our union. We pray that God protects and gives you wisdom as we look forward to the legalisation and fulfilment of the promise made to our union,” the group stated, expressing a hope that Mahama’s administration will regularise their operations.
The Volta Regional Youth Wing of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) also joined in celebrating the president-elect.
“This remarkable achievement stands as a clear testament to the unwavering trust that Ghanaians have in your visionary leadership and transformative agenda for the Ghana We Want,” their statement read.
In addition, the National Tenants’ Union of Ghana highlighted their expectations for swift action on housing reforms.
“It is our utmost belief that within 90 days in office, you will set up a Committee of Enquiry to investigate the implementation of the Rent Assistance Scheme, which we have every reason to believe was fraudulently implemented, and the privatisation of the Saglemi Affordable Housing Project at the eleventh hour by President Akufo-Addo’s government,” their statement read.
The union further pledged its readiness to support the administration in addressing housing injustices and providing low-cost housing solutions.
