Joyce Bawah Mogtari, a special aide to President-elect John Dramani Mahama, has attributed the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) landslide victory in the 2024 elections to their hard work and strategic messaging.

Mahama secured 6,328,397 votes representing 56.55% while the ruling New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) candidate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia got 4,657,304 representing 41.61% in the elections. The NDC also secured the majority of seats in parliament with 180 seats confirmed so far.

In an interview on Face to Face on Channel One TV on Tuesday, Mogtari emphasised the importance of their approach, which included a comprehensive listening tour.

She highlighted that the NDC’s efforts to engage with various segments of society and address their concerns played a crucial role in securing the overwhelming support from voters.

According to Mogtari, the listening tour allowed the party to connect with professional associations, student groups, market women, and the broader Ghanaian public, ensuring that their campaign resonated with the people’s needs and aspirations.

Responding to how they won the election, she told host Umaru Sanda Amadu, “Hard work, hard work, very strategic and intentional about our messaging. The listening tour actually set us up for the final campaign and you remember that we made sure that it didn’t have a lot of political undertones.

“We visited every corner, professional associations, students’ associations, market women, the generality of the Ghanaian populace.”
