The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has appealed to the Ghana Police Service to enhance security measures at the various collation centres.

This appeal follows reports of vandalism allegedly committed by supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in response to delays in the announcement of parliamentary results.

Both President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and President-elect John Dramani Mahama have condemned these actions.

During a press conference held in Accra on December 11, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong urged the Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare to implement immediate actions to avert any further incidents.

“We’re calling on the police, Mr IGP, the safety of this country is in your hands. Everybody is watching you; everybody is counting on you. Let your men provide maximum security at all collation centres.

“So that officers of the Electoral Commission can do their constitutional duty of making sure we have credible parliamentary candidates-elect in our next Parliament,” he stated.
