Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on party members to put aside blame and focus on unity following the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.
Speaking during a meeting with party executives at Klottey Korley, Dr. Bawumia identified voter apathy among NPP supporters as a key factor in the party’s loss.
He noted that the numbers suggest that the NPP handed victory to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), rather than the opposition gaining significant ground compared to their 2020 performance.
Urging restraint and solidarity, he warned that playing the blame game in moments of collective disappointment could fracture the party further.
“I know the party members are sad at the moment, we are in pain. I’ve seen many people in pain. But I have an abiding belief in God and I know that His ways are not our ways, we don’t question it. So, sometimes he puts us on paths we don’t understand. But one thing for all of you to know is that His plans are best for you.
“You don’t blame people in your state of pain. The blame game will destroy us. Let us come together. We all know that the power was given to them [NDC] by us, so we work in ways to make us united. Once we are united with a goal, we are going to win in 2028. Once again, stop the blame game and let’s unite. Let us look at the future.
“…At this stage, we are looking at building the party again. It’s not about the individual ambition,” he stated.
