The Ashanti Regional Peace Council has appealed to party supporters to be moderate in their celebrations by prioritising the peace and democracy of the country.
This follows the numerous incidents of vandalism reported post-December 7 elections.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday, December 10, the Peace Council condemned the besiege, looting and vandalism of some constituency collation centres within the Ashanti Region citing Asawase, Obuasi East, Ahafo Ano South-East and Ahafo Ano North as examples.
According to the council, conduct as such destroys the democratic tenets of the country. Congratulating the winning party, they urged all citizens to prioritise peace and solidarity.
“We congratulate the winning party, the losers and all the Electoral Management bodies for the peaceful manner they conducted themselves in the process. We, however, appeal to the winning party, especially at the grass-root level to be moderate in their celebrations.
“As we prepare to welcome a new governing body, we need to respect the tenets of our constitution during the transition period and beyond. We would encourage all citizens to be tolerant and respect our institutional structures and laid-down procedures of our governance system”, the statement noted.
