In a historic victory, Faustina Elikplim Akurugu, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate, has secured the Dome Kwabenya constituency, overturning a seat long held by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The result was announced on Sunday, December 8, following a fiercely contested election in the December 7 general polls.
NPP candidate Mike Oquaye Jr. garnered 50,477 votes, while Akurugu triumphed with 51,634 votes, edging out her opponent by a narrow margin.
Akurugu’s victory marks the first time the NDC has won the Dome Kwabenya seat, a constituency that has historically been a stronghold of the NPP.
