Incumbent Member of Parliament for Sekondi Andrew Egyapa Mercer has lost the seat to National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Blay Nyameke Armah.
Mercer polled 11,084 votes, representing 42.94% of the total valid votes as against Armah’s 14,558 votes representing to 56.40%.
Out of the 25,813 votes cast, 171 ballots were rejected.
This represents a notable change in the Sekondi parliamentary seat, as Mercer had previously held a strong lead in the 2016 elections.
In that election, Mercer secured a decisive victory, garnering 16,839 votes, which accounted for 59.47% of the total valid votes. He triumphed over Emmanuel Assifuah of the NDC, as well as candidates from the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) and Convention People’s Party (CPP).
Armah’s win indicates a robust performance for the NDC in the constituency and highlights a broader trend of closely contested parliamentary races in the 2024 elections.
