The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, has reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to upholding the will of the people as expressed through the ballots cast in the 2024 general elections.

Addressing the media in Accra on Sunday, Mensa emphasised that the results, as recorded on the pink sheets from polling stations across the country, will be respected and used to declare the final election outcome.

“We will uphold the will of the people as expressed at the polls, and that will is what has been captured on the pink sheets,” Jean Mensa stated, urging all Ghanaians to remain patient and allow the Commission the time necessary to complete the process.

Mensa’s comments come amid growing anticipation over the release of the final election results. She highlighted that while the results from several regions are already being processed, including those from Ahafo, more results are expected in the coming hours.

“The electoral process is an important one, and we must ensure that we are very thorough in producing the results at the national level. As we speak, we’ve had results come in from Ahafo, and we are expecting more results to come in the next few hours,” Mensa added.

The EC Chairperson called for continued calm and patience, as the Commission works to ensure accuracy and transparency in finalising the vote tally. She reassured the public that the EC is dedicated to conducting the election in accordance with Ghana’s laws and principles of democracy.

The Commission has been under the spotlight as the country awaits official results, and the public is eager to know the outcome of one of the most anticipated elections in recent history.

Meanwhile Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New patriotic Party has conceded defeat and congratulated former president and flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress following provisional results trickling in from across the country.
