Jerry Ahmed Shaib, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate, has emerged victorious in the Weija-Gbawe constituency during the 2024 general elections.

Shaib polled 32,608 votes to clinch the seat. His closest rival, Felix Odartey Lamptey of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), garnered 30,460 votes in the tightly contested race.

Other contenders in the election included Eric Kwaku Ofori of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG), who received 142 votes; Saviour Gbedze of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), who earned 95 votes; and George Fynn Obeng of the All People’s Congress (APC), with 75 votes.

Shaib’s win cements the NPP’s hold on the Weija-Gbawe constituency, adding to the party’s representation in Parliament following the 2024 elections.

Meanwhile, NDC’s Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunnor has emerged victorious in the Awutu Senya East Parliamentary race, unseating the incumbent MP, Mavis Hawa Koomson, of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Naa Koryoo secured 50,886 votes, defeating Hawa Koomson, who garnered 46,638 votes. This victory cements Naa Koryoo as the Member of Parliament-elect for the constituency.

Her win is seen as a significant achievement for the NDC, as the Awutu Senya East constituency has been a highly contested seat in recent elections.

Naa Koryoo’s campaign focused on addressing pressing local issues, resonating with voters and ultimately leading to her success.

This result is part of broader gains made by the NDC in the 2024 general elections, further solidifying their position in Parliament.

“It has been a hard-fought win for me. Kasoa is now free and will see development under my watch,” Naa Koryoo Okunnor said.

There was a huge crowd at the forecourt of the Central East Regional Police Command where party supporters of the NDC had gathered waiting for the final declaration of the result.
