The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on the National Peace Council (NPC) to urge the Electoral Commission (EC) to expedite the collation and announcement of election results.

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the NDC at a presser in Accra on Sunday expressed frustration over the delay and emphasised the need for timely communication from the EC.

“We have consistently been complaining about EC’s feet dragging in getting results announced. We have not heard the national peace council or anybody in the peace industry calling the EC to fast track their duty of collating and announcing results,” Nketiah stated.

Nketiah highlighted that former President Dramani Mahama has secured over 56% of the votes, based on the NDC’s compilations from their copies of the EC’s pink sheets across the country.

“So if they have the originals and they have signed and given us copies of the originals they are holding, what prevents them from putting their totals together and announcing?” he questioned.

He urged the EC to communicate any challenges they might be facing that are impeding the collation and declaration of results.

“They should come and tell us if they have any challenges that is impeding the expedition of the collations and declarations. The nation ought to know, but keeping the nation in a situation where nobody knows what is happening, interested parties are bound to react,” Nketiah added.

Nketiah concluded by calling on the NPC and other stakeholders to press the EC to expedite the declaration of results.

“The way forward is for the NPC and all the other actors to call on the EC to expedite action on the declaration,” he stated.
