The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Obuasi East, Samuel Aboagye, has raised concerns over the presence of military officers in the constituency during the 2024 general elections.
According to him, these military officers in the constituency were allegedly sent there to intimidate voters in Obuasi East.
The controversy erupted after two armed military personnel were attacked by the Obuasi East NDC Communication Officer at a polling station in the Obuasi East constituency.
The NDC Communication Officer reportedly requested that the soldiers leave the premises immediately or face being reported to the police. This request led to a confrontation, resulting in a physical altercation between the two soldiers and the NDC party member who was joined in the attack by other party members.
The situation quickly escalated, with the soldiers allegedly resisting the instructions of the NDC communication officer.
Speaking to Channel One TV, Samuel Aboagye raised concerns over the soldiers’ activities, suggesting they may have been operating under suspicious motives.
“Per my investigations, one of the vehicles the military guys are using is alleged to be for the NADMO coordinating officer for Obuasi East Constituency. But I don’t have the fact to that, but we have all the registration numbers that from Monday, we are going to assist the police to investigate.
“Honestly, I saw them last night when they stopped me and asked me where I was going. There is no base from which they are operating. Somebody brought them to disrupt and intimidate my constituency.
“So, I don’t want to make so much of allegations in this matter. It was targeted. My constituency executive is someone who has been on their radar. They are not on good terms with him, and they were given instruction that when they get him, they get him, he should be shot. These are allegations I don’t want to put on air. But we all want to follow the matter to the root of its conclusion,” he stated.
