Tensions flared at the Akurem JHS polling station in Asawase during the 2024 elections, following a protest by some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The commotion arose when the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for the constituency, Manaf Ibrahim, opted to remain in the queue to cast his vote, declining preferential treatment offered to him as a candidate.

Manaf Ibrahim arrived at the polling station in the early hours of the voting day. In accordance with electoral guidelines, candidates are often allowed expedited access to cast their votes and then proceed with monitoring other polling stations.

However, in an unusual move, Manaf Ibrahim chose to wait in line with other voters, citing his desire to experience the process as an ordinary citizen and connect with his constituents on a personal level.
