The Deputy Minister for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, and Member of Parliament for Sekondi, Andrew Egyapa Mercer, has expressed strong confidence in retaining his parliamentary seat following the December 7 general elections.

Speaking in an interview with Channel One TV, the incumbent MP downplayed the competitiveness of the race, emphasising his belief in the support of his constituents.

Egyapa Mercer further projected that by the end of the voting day, results would confirm his reelection

“There is an election, but I don’t see it as a competition. There has been a lot of noise making in Sekondi but the substance will prevail and the good people of this country will vote in favour of Dr Bawumia and the people of Sekondi will decide in my favour,” he stated.

“… I am extremely confident that this evening by 7 pm we will know the outcome of the elections here in Sekondi. It will be my third term in parliament by the grace of God come January 7, 2025.”

The Sekondi seat is historically a seat for the NPP, which the party has been winning since 1996. The closer the NDC has been to winning the Sekondi seat was in 2012 when it garnered about 47. 12% of the total vote cast.
