African Union (AU) High Representative for Silencing the Guns and Chairman of the African Union(AU) High-Level Panel, Dr Mohamed Ibn Chambas has appealed to stakeholders and citizens to uphold solidarity and peace in the electioneering period.
With numerous concerns over potential electoral misunderstandings and chaos, the diplomat urged parties and candidates to accept the outcome of the election. He called on citizens to channel concerns through the appropriate means instead of resorting to electoral violence.
In an exclusive interview on Saturday, December 7, Dr. Chambas called on citizens and stakeholders to prioritise human lives over political competition.
Emphasising the importance of conducting elections devoid of chaos, Dr. Chambas outlined Ghana’s progress in strengthening its electoral and democratic processes reiterating that the country’s reputation as the beacon of democracy in Africa will be stained if the 2024 General Election sees violence.
He called on stakeholders and citizens to prioritise the rule of law, transparency and fairness.
“No life is worth sacrificing for the victory of a political party”, he stated.
