Tensions flared at the Assemblies of God Church polling station in the Ablekuma West Constituency, Greater Accra Region, over the distribution of breakfast allegedly provided by the incumbent Member of Parliament, Ursula Owusu-Ekulful.
A pickup truck loaded with food packs was met with jeers and hoots from some voters, forcing it to leave the polling station.
The occupants of the vehicle claimed that the food, allegedly supplied by Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, who is running against the National Democratic Congress’s candidate, Kweku Addo, was meant for party agents and electoral officials.
The vehicle had to relocate and park outside the voting centre.
Doris Boakye, a member of the NPP in Ablekuma West, told Channel One New “We just brought food [breakfast] for our polling agents and EC officials, but the NDC members are asking us to take the vehicle out. We know them, we live here with them, so we know them. The food is from Ursula Owusu… This shouldn’t create a problem.”
