Jean Mensa, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), has officially opened the national collation centre in Accra as part of the ongoing 2024 general elections.

For the first time, the EC has made the collation centre accessible to media partners from the very start of the electoral process. This move underscores the Commission’s commitment to transparency and fostering public trust in the electoral system.

“This is a historic moment in our country as this is the first time we are opening up our collation centre at the national level to our media partners, and we have been doing this right from the start of the elections which took place a few hours ago,” Mensa stated when she opened the centre on Saturday, December 7, 2024.

She emphasised the importance of transparency and accountability in the electoral process, highlighting the values that the commission holds dear.

“The media will have first-hand information on aspects of our work. This is a testament to the values that the commission holds dear. Values of transparency, values of accountability, values of integrity, values of inclusiveness, and values of responsiveness,” she added.

Mensa encouraged citizens to engage with the electoral process and assured them of the commission’s commitment to inclusiveness.

“We encourage the citizens to walk this journey with us. We are keen to ensure that we include you in all aspects of our work,” she said.

The Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) in charge of operations, Samuel Tettey, also confirmed that voting commenced at approximately 99% of polling stations across the country at 7 am.
