The Mampong Infantry Jnr Primary School (St. Monica’s) Polling Station in the Mampong Constituency saw confusion as polling agents of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) raised concerns over already broken seals supposed to secure the election materials.
These seals are ideally supposed to remain intact until opened by officials of the Electoral Commission (EC) with all party and candidate representatives present. However, these seals were found already broken causing the NDC officials to protest.
The misunderstanding was prolonged until an election officer intervened to maintain calm.
“I got here around 5 am. We waited for the EC officials who arrived at 6 am. We saw them come in with the box. The box was already opened. They started to unpack its content. All the materials and stamps had already been opened. We expressed our displeasure, and it ended in an argument,” NDC agent Maud Sarfoa Iddrisu stated.
“We were in here when the presiding officer came in with the box. He started unpacking and we realised that he was opening the presidential stamp which was supposed to be opened in our presence. He had already tampered with the stamp. We confronted him and he claimed that that was how it was supposed to be,” another NDC agent stated.
The polling station expects to see 617 persons cast their vote today.
