“I came home to vote because it is our right to exercise our franchise to choose a leader who can lead us into a nice future tomorrow. We expect that there should be free and fair elections devoid of violence. We don’t expect violence tomorrow because that can destroy the future of our motherland Ghana,” said Abubakari Dawuda, a resident of Kanvili.

The Election Task Force in the Northern Region has deployed security personnel across all 18 constituencies.

About 3,000 police, fire, immigration, and other sister agency personnel have been deployed to oversee the election process in the region.

With a total voter population of 1,209,934 expected to cast their ballots at 2,464 polling stations, stakeholders are urging a peaceful election and making a strong appeal to the youth to avoid violence.

Speaking in an interview, the Chairman of the Christian Council of Ghana in Tamale, Rt. Rev. Father Dennis Tong Debukari stressed the importance of peaceful coexistence during and after the general election.

We also call on our revered chiefs and religious leaders to continue admonishing and preaching peace and love for the country. To the youth of this nation, remember the future of this country is important to you because you will come and reap what you sow today,” he stated.
