The Electoral Commission (EC) has addressed an incident involving the transport of election materials for the Afadjato South District, where the District Electoral Officer (DEO) was found using a private vehicle without a police escort.

The incident, which occurred on December 5, 2024, led to the police taking custody of the materials as part of their ongoing investigation.

Despite the breach of protocol, the EC assured that the incident would not affect the conduct of elections in the area.

In a statement signed by Samuel Tettey, Deputy Commissioner of the Electoral Commission in charge of Operations, the EC confirmed that the officer’s actions violated established procedures.

The Commission emphasized that it is conducting its internal investigations while fully cooperating with the police.

“The policy of the Commission is for its officers to transport all Election Materials in official vehicles with police escort where necessary. The Commission will conduct its own internal investigations while also cooperating with the Police in their investigations.

“We wish to assure the Public that though the Officer breached the policy of the Commission, the actions of the Officer will not in any way compromise the elections in the Afadjato South Constituency.
