The Ghana Police Service has deployed two helicopters as part of enhanced security measures for the final rallies of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), scheduled for today, Thursday, December 5.

The two events are being held in close proximity, with the NPP rallying at the University of Ghana Sports Park and the NDC at Zurak Park in Madina.

To manage the potential for congestion and ensure public safety, the police have implemented traffic diversions and added aerial surveillance through helicopter deployment.

ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, the Director of Public Affairs for the Ghana Police Service, explained that the helicopters would provide an additional layer of security, ensuring the smooth conduct of both rallies.

“This morning, two police helicopters will be flying over the rally grounds to provide surveillance and to help monitor activities on the ground to ensure the safety of the persons at the rally and to look out also for any suspicious activities that will require the intervention of the police and other security agencies.

“We want the general public to be aware that if they see the helis flying, it is for the purpose of providing an additional layer of security”, she stated.

The Ghana Police Service has assured the public of robust security arrangements ahead of the final political rallies.

Despite concerns over the proximity of the two venues along the Accra-Madina stretch, which raises the risk of clashes between supporters, both parties opted to maintain their locations, citing political disadvantages in relocating.
