President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has dismissed the feasibility of the 24-hour economy proposal put forth by John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), for the 2024 elections.

Mahama has suggested that implementing a 24-hour economy would help boost Ghana’s economic growth if he is elected. However, speaking at the final rally of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at the University of Ghana Sports Park on December 5, Akufo-Addo criticized the idea, pointing out that Mahama’s administration struggled to maintain a reliable electricity supply, often failing to provide consistent power for even 12 hours a day.

Akufo-Addo urged Ghanaians to support Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, emphasizing that his leadership offers a clearer vision to continue the progress achieved in recent years.

“Vote for Bawumia, he has a clear plan for our country, not someone who will come and talk to us about the 24-hour economy. When you ask him, what does it mean? He says it’s voluntary, have you heard of any government policy that is voluntary? if you listened to him on BBC, you realised there’s nothing in there.

“A government policy that you can choose to sign unto it or not, is it possible? Is this a policy? For four solid years, he couldn’t keep the lights on for 12 hours a day, after giving you power. How are you going to guarantee us a 24-hour economy?”

Bawumia is the most qualified candidate to lead Ghana – Akufo-Addo
