Fuel prices in Ghana have inched up as some Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) adjust prices following the start of December’s first pricing window.

Shell has led the trend by raising the cost of both petrol and diesel.

A litre of petrol, which was sold at GH₵14.82 during November’s second pricing window, now retails at GH₵14.99, reflecting a marginal increase.

Similarly, diesel prices have climbed from GH₵15.66 to GH₵15.72 per litre.

This adjustment comes despite earlier projections by the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) for a general reduction in fuel prices during November’s second pricing window.

At that time, petrol prices had slightly decreased, while diesel prices remained unchanged, contrary to expectations.

COPEC’s projection was based on favourable international market trends and the relatively stable performance of the cedi during the period. Data indicated a drop in petrol prices in the global market, from $723.03 to $676.64 per metric tonne.

The latest increment announced just days into December’s pricing window suggests the potential for further price adjustments by other OMCs. Industry observers are closely monitoring the situation as consumers brace for the possibility of additional increases.
