David Asante, Managing Director of the Ghana Publishing Company Limited, has emphasised the critical role of the Electoral Commission (EC) in maintaining trust and transparency during the December 2024 elections.
He stated that while the Electoral Commission and its commissioners cannot rig the elections, their conduct must inspire confidence among stakeholders.
Speaking on the Point Blank segment on Eyewitness News on Wednesday, December 4, Mr. Asante highlighted the importance of the EC’s conduct in ensuring credibility and avoiding perceptions of bias.
“The Electoral Commission and the commissioner cannot rig the election, but the conduct of the commissioners must instil confidence and hope in the players. If you give me enough confidence that what I get at the polling station is what you will transmit, I cannot have the confidence to call the EC as potentially rigging the election.
“But if indeed the EC and the commissioner are compromised, then of course there will be the potential for the stakeholders to say that the commission is preparing to rig the election,” he stated.
