President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has urged Ghanaians to once again reject John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the upcoming December 7 elections, arguing that they have nothing new to offer.
Addressing organized labour during his campaign tour in the Greater Accra Region on Tuesday, President Akufo-Addo criticized Mahama’s record, describing it as a failure.
He contrasted this with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s performance, stating that Bawumia has excelled in his role and would build on his achievements if elected president.
“His (Mahama’s) performance in his 1st term was poor. Today, a narrative is being developed as if his period was some golden age of Ghanaian economic development and that, therefore, it is on that basis that he wants to return to continue that golden age. Oh, really? The golden age? You couldn’t pay teachers’ training allowances? You couldn’t pay nurses’ training allowances? Graduate unemployment association, 3.4% rate of growth, the slowest, the most sluggish for over a decade.
“We won’t have to repeat that and on top of it, of course, the killer of killers, dumsor, for 4 years. You couldn’t keep the lights on, but we’re told that we’re now gonna go into a 24-hour economy. I’m amazed by this statement.
“By somebody who couldn’t keep the lights on for 12 hours, he’s going to give us a 24-hour economy. With what power are we going to power this 24-hour economy? When even 12 hours, you can’t keep the lights on. He claims that by the time he left office, he had solved the dumsor problem. I know we are supposed to have short memories as Ghanaians, but I don’t think that our memories are that short that we have forgotten what has happened.”
“…A record of failure on one side and which was well recognised by the people of Ghana and that is why in 2016, they refused to allow him a second term against an individual who has been number 2 in a government that has worked, that has delivered a considerable amount across all aspects of our national life, who is determined to build on that and add more,” he stated.
