President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has approved the elevation of 4 municipal and 3 district assemblies into metropolitan and municipal assemblies respectively.
A press release by the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation and Rural Development indicates that the president’s approval was based upon a request by the ministry in relation to Act 93 of the relevant legal provisions.
The Ho, Sunyani, New Juabeng South as well as Wa Municipal assemblies have been upgraded to metropolitan assemblies while the Offinso North, Birim North and Karaga district assemblies have been upgraded to municipal assemblies.
The assemblies however duly upgraded pending finalisation of relevant administrative processes.
“Accordingly, the following Municipal and District Assemblies are duly upgraded pending finalisation of all necessary legal and administrative processes,” the press stated.
