Former President and Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has pledged to introduce sustainable mining methods in galamsey -prone areas.
Addressing party members at Akrokkeri in the Fomena Constituency during day three of his six-day campaign tour in the Ashanti region, Mahama emphasised the urgent need to halt the rapid degradation of lands, promising innovative solutions that balance economic benefits with environmental preservation.
“I know small-scale mining is of great importance to the people of Adansi. The NDC will bring in good initiatives so we can continue with our small-scale mining. We will train small-scale miners on appropriate mining methods to preserve the environment”
Additionally, he urged community members to move beyond loyalty to a specific political party and prioritise voting for a more competent leader.
“We vote to secure good living standards and jobs. The culture of party loyalty has changed. That culture hinders development,” he stated.
