Dr. Kojo Asante, Director of Advocacy and Policy Engagement at the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), has urged Ghanaians to actively participate in the voting process on December 7.

He cautioned that abstaining from voting could result in others making electoral choices that may not align with their leadership preferences.

Some citizens have expressed reluctance to engage in the upcoming election, citing significant economic challenges and unmet promises from political parties, with some asserting that the government has not fulfilled its commitments.

In a discussion with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Channel One TV‘s Face to Face, Dr. Asante reiterated the importance of visiting polling stations to exercise their voting rights and emphasized the various options available for selecting a preferred candidate.

“People are frustrated, some people think they don’t have a choice, some people say they won’t vote. After 16 years of NPP and 16 years of NDC, there’s a lot of evaluation and reflection that is going on. But at the minimum to keep the wheels of democracy going, we still have to elect a government.

“Why don’t they try the other candidates who are on the ballots? If you don’t vote somebody will still decide for you. I think you are better off and say at least I [you] made my decision.

“If it doesn’t go my way, at least I’m responsible for that. But if you hand over that responsibility to somebody else, you can’t complain later.”
