The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is optimistic about its chances in the Asawase Constituency, with party officials claiming their message of bold solutions is resonating with voters ahead of the next election.
Umaira Illiasu, the Deputy Women’s Organiser for the NPP in Asawase, expressed confidence in the party’s approach in an interview on Channel One TV‘s Community Forum.
“Most of the constituents in Asawase do talk to us about security issues. Also, about unemployment and education. God being so good, our Parliamentary Candidate has been speaking on these three issues; education, unemployment and security. They have realised that our parliamentary candidate has solutions to most of the problems they have been raising in Asawase Constituency and are buying into our message,” she stated.
Asawase, a traditional stronghold of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has proven challenging for the NPP to penetrate since the seat was won by the NDC in 2004. The closest the NPP came to victory was in the 2016 election, where they secured 45.75% of the votes.
However, their share dropped to 37% in the 2020 election, with the NDC retaining the seat with 62% of the total vote cast.
Despite this history, Illiasu believes the NPP’s focus on addressing the pressing needs of Asawase residents could turn the tide.
