The New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s parliamentary candidate for the Odododiodioo, Abdul Mannaf Sowah has denied allegations of vote buying made by his opponent, Alfred Nii Kotey Ashie of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Sowah says he engaged some security personnel as part of his campaign and provided them with food and transportation money on humanitarian grounds, without any intention of influencing their votes.

He said this after observing the special voting exercise at the Jamestown Police Station.

“I am the candidate; I have every right to campaign. You need to engage them and tell them your vision and why they need to vote for you. Some people are coming from Kumasi and Tamale just to cast their ballot, and you cannot leave them just like that, at least some sort of transportation to ease them.

“That was what I did. I engaged close to 80 of them, telling them what I could do for the Odododiodio Constituency and why they needed to vote for me. That’s all I did. I don’t remember sharing anything again.

“I was supposed to meet them at 3 pm but I arrived at 7 pm which was very late, and they were complaining about food, so I had to bring them food to eat and transportation to go back wherever they came from. I don’t know where these allegations levelled against me are coming from. My opponent is just trying to get sympathy votes,” he stated.
