The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Dome-Kwabenya, Mike Oquaye Jnr., has called on voters to replicate the peaceful conduct of the ongoing special voting exercise during the December 7 general elections.
Speaking to Channel One News, Amb. Oquaye Jnr. cautioned individuals planning to engage in violence to desist, warning that those found guilty would face severe legal consequences.
The candidate expressed confidence in the NPP’s ability to maintain its winning streak in the constituency, describing Dome-Kwabenya as a “safe seat” for the party and emphasizing their certainty of securing the seat once again.
“I believe that this election can be peaceful as long as both parties commit to doing the right thing. What is the reason that anybody might come here and attempt to snatch a ballot box? As for that whether you are NDC, NPP, CPP, or whatever, the police must deal with you. They must arrest you and arraign you before the court. Your jail sentence should be one of the fastest in court.
“Everything is going fantastic and I think that we should just stick to the rules. We all saw the elections in America, though there were one or two issues somewhere…we can avoid it. Go, vote and go home.
“And all those people who are bringing ‘macho people to come and court mayhem, may it fall on themselves.
“My expectations are very high, I know we will win especially in Dome-Kwabenya. In political parlance, there is something called a ‘safe seat’. Dome-Kwabenya is a safe seat for the NPP, the NDC knows this. They want to make a lot of noise and say a lot of things but we will wait for them.
“We were all here when Madam Zita Okaikwei came and spoke on a lot of issues and made a lot of noise. The same thing happened with my other sister Sophia Ackuaku, she also had her day, said a lot of things and went, so will my opponent come and say a lot of things and go.
“Dome-Kwabenya is a safe seat for the NPP, they know the work that the NPP does for them and they relate to the NPP. And this time, I am even going to her stronghold to take some of her so-called core voters from them because at the end of the day, I am an area boy, I have been living here since 1981. I have a lot of relationships with people. I was only 10 years old when I moved into this area. For me, this is a local backyard”, he stated.
