The flagbearer of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Alhaji Mohammed Frimpong has revealed that the recent attack on his team by armed men is due to a resurgence of armed robbery in the community and not a planned attack.
The flagbearer and his team were reportedly attacked by armed men between Nsakaw and Wenchi in the Bono Region on November 26, 2024. Members of the team, however, sustained no injuries as a result of the timely intervention of the police patrol team.
The incident occurred late Tuesday, November 26, 2024, around 11 p.m., as the team was returning from a campaign tour in Namasa, Tain Constituency. The attack happened on the Nsakaw-Wenchi stretch.
In an interview with Channel One News, Alhaji Frimpong indicated that they are trusting the police to bring perpetrators to book soon.
“We have not had any feedback but what we know is that there was a previous robbery in the same municipality on Monday which was the 25th, ours followed on the 26th. Then there was another one on the night of the 27th.
“So, it looks as if there is some kind of resurgence of armed robbery in the area. We did discuss this with the regional commander, so we are yet to have any feedback. Looking at the whole issue later I discarded the notion that it was a direct attack on me. We had an unfortunate misfortune of just bumping into their barricade,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the Bono Regional Chairman of the NDP, Evans Ofori noted that the team initially mistook the armed men’s roadblock for a police checkpoint.
He praised the professionalism of the police officer accompanying them, whose swift actions, according to him, helped save lives.
