The Director of Conflict Resolution of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abraham Amaliba has revealed the NDC’s intention to defend itself if security agencies fail to defend them during the December general election.

In an interview on The Big Issue on Saturday, November 30, Amaliba emphasised the NDC’s readiness to police the ballot to ensure fairness in the elections.

He posited that the NDC is not going to actualise any chaos but will however oppose any threat of intimidation. Citing the primary law of nature as one’s capacity to self-preserve, he emphasised the party’s willingness to defend itself if the security agencies in charge fail to do so.

Amaliba called on the police to replicate the strategy they implemented during the Assin North by-election, reiterating that it will ensure peace in the upcoming election.

“NDC will not start any violence and we have made it clear that the NDC will defend itself if the security agencies fail to defend us. The first law of nature is self-preservation. We are not going to allow our supporters to be manned. That we will not agree.

“But we expect the security agencies to be there for all and sundry. I must commend the police, in one of the by-elections, they did extremely well and I am talking about Assin North. If they replicate the same strategy, this election will be peaceful.

“You notice that in Assin North, the police did not care who was an NDC operative or who was an NPP operative. They arrested and arrested known NPP people. Where the police decide that it will do its work, without any hindrance, I am sure it will be peaceful,”  he stated.
